The New Zealand Liberation Museum - Te Arawhata

Project: Museum
Role: Trustee, Communications and Brand, Strategic Advisor, Concept Advisory Group
Client: New Zealand Memorial Museum Trust - Le Quesnoy

Between 2018 and 2023 I was heavily involved with the New Zealand Memorial Museum Trust - Le Quesnoy. This came about because I felt immensely sad that my own country did not have a place to capture our WWI history, when other allies did. I held multiple roles in this period, all voluntary apart from a short paid period doing communications.

I created the trust website and updated the logo, and worked on the creation of the museum website until just before opening of the museum in October 2023. I was involved in the name, design and brand work for the museum, as well as the concept sign off group for the visitor experience. This was an 18 month process working with Wētā Workshop from initial concept to detailed design. Working with the themes of freedom, friendship and future, the end result is a multi-sensory experience that connects visitors to the liberation of Le Quesnoy as well as commemorating the 12,500 Kiwis who died in France and Belgium during World War I.
